Discussions of the Semantic Web
About eight years ago, the director of the World Wide Web Consortium, Tim Berners-Lee, began talking about a way to offload some of the interpretive work one does in finding and reading web pages. He argued that computers could do more to help us with our primary tasks when surfing the web - finding and reading (and in some cases, interacting with) information.
In 1998, Berners-Lee published 'Semantic Web Road map' [sic] which inspired some, and confused others, in the community of people who made careers out of understanding and building web applications. Nonetheless, this was a spark enough for new invention, and people all over the world began setting to work on realising a Sematic Web.
This presentation gives an overview of working with today's Semantic Web technology, and highlights some of the important changes to the ways one might create and share information in this paradigm.
