The author taught an Introductory Perl Programming subject to undergraduate students at Monash University for six years. This presentation highlights some of the issues with Perl that make it difficult to teach to undergrads, and some of the issues with undergrads that make it hard to teach them Perl. An expanded version of a talk given in 2005 at Melbourne Perl Mongers.
