We want to present some of the great advantages of using an interpreter, in particular Python, as a framework for the cross-platform development of embedded system based on the Linux OS.
We analyse some of the hardware requisites and we present a real world example: a system driving a ticket station based on a PPChameleon 405.
Keywords: Python, Linux embedded, cross platform
Stream:

I was Born in 1966 in Cesena (FO) Italy, where I read many Twenty-Century European Romans and rided a
125cc Honda.
I studied theoretical physics at the Bologna University, gliding and climbing Alpi moungtains on North Italy and
teaching physics in a private school.
I had different working experience as employied in three private enterprises and at the Forlì University (Italy).
In 1997 I married Monica and childreen arrived, now they are three: Emilio (7), Ettore (5) and Emma (2).
In 1999, I started professional computer programming in the field of automation of industrial quality control:
image processing and analisys in C++ for Win32 and C for embedded "smart cameras".
In 2002, while working as software developer of aereonautical data analisys application for the
University, I had the chance of introducing Linux in a project based on an embedded PC104,
after having tested WinCE and Qunix 5. Since then I have been using Linux as target and development platform
in almost all of the projects I worked on.
I started loving Python in 2001 as development framework for Win32 PC software and the first professional
application I developed with PyQt was the GUI front end for a monitor for experimental GPS stations.
Now I develop embedded Linux-based solutions as consultant.
